The Douglas College Award of Distinction for Educational Excellence recognizes the best Douglas College has to offer the world – an individual who strives for excellence in learning and is passionate about the community.
Alongside myself, fellow BPEC classmate Kevin Kazun was also nominated for consideration. |
The Difference Maker Award goes to "[a]n extraordinary person who makes a positive change in the lives of others. A Difference Maker can accomplish extraordinary things simply by thinking and acting beyond [their] interests."

Awards
Thomas A. Phillips Award of Distinction, 2018This monetary award is given to a student or students who demonstrate a keenness for designing and creating projects outside the basic course curriculum. The award is given to a senior (3rd or 4th year) Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching student who demonstrates an interest in, and aptitude for, emerging technologies, and who demonstrates initiative with developing projects outside of the basic curriculum.

Bob Bearpark Foundation Coaching Award of Distinction, 2018This monetary award honours a Douglas College Sport Science Diploma or Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching. Selections are made by Sport Science faculty in conjunction with the Foundation. There will be two $1,000 award presented to either a Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching student or a Sport Science Diploma student. There will also be three $500 awards chosen from the Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching only: one to be presented to a second-year student, one to a third-year student, and a one to a fourth-year (graduating) student. Applicants must be full-time students, exhibit a commitment to coaching education, demonstrate a positive involvement in community sport, and be considered a top student in their respective year of their program by Sport Science faculty members.

Sport Science Faculty Leadership Award, 2018This monetary award was established in 2003 by the Douglas College Sport Science Department to recognize a student or students who demonstrate a positive contribution to the Sport Science Diploma or Bachelor of Physical Education through leadership both at the College and in the community. While the official title of the award is the Sport Science Faculty Leadership Award, each year it is presented in honour of a past Sport Science faculty member who has contributed to the Douglas College Sport Science Department.

Living Big Student Leader of the Year Award of Distinction - Off Campus
This award recognizes a student leader who exemplifies outstanding leadership characteristics, not only demonstrating commitment to their academic pursuits, but also a strong commitment to the Douglas College community. Over their time at Douglas College, each Leader of the Year recipient has dedicated significant amounts of effort and energy towards bettering the student experience through involvement in campus and community activities. These award have been generously donated by Suzanne Kyra, former Douglas College Foundation Board Member.

This monetary award is named in memory of John Joseph Kent (JJ), departed father of long time Sport Science faculty member, Alison Gill. JJ was a kindhearted, carefree, patient person who believed in sport; but more importantly, he believed in recognizing and nurturing people's passions and potential. The Douglas College student who receives this recognition will be active and passionate about coaching and will exemplify JJ's character as a person who believed in positive leadership and in giving one's time to help every person you come in contact with reach their potential. This award will recognize an outstanding student annually and designate them as the class/program ‘Coaching Representative’.

This monetary award honours a Sport Science Diploma or Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching student who most represents the professional and personal characteristics of past Sport Science faculty member Chris Johnson. Winners of this award must be nominated by a Sport Science faculty member and possess outstanding tenacity and fortitude with a joyous attitude toward others or a special aptitude for generosity of spirit. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate positive role modelling, the ability to reach out to others and a propensity for bringing "a little sanity into a totally insane world."
